As you maybe aware, due to the recent prolonged rainfall we have now lost Saturday Club sessions in Brockwell Park 4 weeks running, along with a number of SMFC home matches (as of 14 February).

We recognise the issue of climate change and the impact it is having on grassroots football clubs such as ourselves. Over the past decade we have seen the winters consistently becoming wetter, most noticeably around January and February. The playing areas and pitches therefore end up holding a lot more water and are not afforded the chance to drain properly. This leaves many of them unplayable, which along with the subsequent league fixture postponements, leads to widespread disruption. We are in the process of taking a number of steps to try and address this issue. We have been working with the Brockwell Park Management to try and install drainage systems better equipped to deal with the increasing amount of rainfall. We have also had meetings with the London F.A, the Football Foundation and the London County Saturday Youth League to address the issue of sustainability and climate risks to football and sport in general. However, ultimately, as a first step, we think it is now seriously time to consider moving league football to the spring and summer months.
