U15s in 9 goal thriller!
11 December 2010
Venue: Brockwell Park
St. Matthew’s 1 Cultural 8
This is definitely not a performance to be judged on its score line. Firstly, due to injuries, Christmas distractions and plain old skiving the U15s played half the match with only the minimum of 8 players and finished with 9 – and this against a team that had already knocked us out of the cup 4-1 at Brockwell back in November, 11 v 11. Those that did turn out to play were a credit to Sonni, Jean and everyone connected to St. Matthew’s. Not at any point did their effort and determination diminish in fighting out what was obviously a lost cause. They received some reward in scoring the best goal of the match, a virtuoso run and 25-yard wonder strike from Daniel Salazar. Anyone who witnessed the ensuing celebrations must have thought that we had not only won the match but the league and cup along with it. A fantastic performance, despite the result, and proof that you can always take something from a defeat, no matter how heavy it may be. Well done the lads!
