SMP Girls Do Project Proud at St. George’s
The St. Matthew’s Project’s girls put on a fantastic show at the StreetGames Football Pools Fives national finals at the National Football Centre, St. George’s Park, Staffordshire at the weekend (August 3-4). The girls travelled up to Burton-on-Trent as London regional champions to take on teams from across England and N. Ireland.
They emerged as overall group winners, a fantastic achievement in itself, before losing 2-1 in the semi-finals to the Northwest – a team they’d already beaten 2-0 in the group stage.
In a 16-25 age group, all the SMP girls were under 20, with two under 18, making them the youngest team at the tournament. And, once again, their football and attitude earned them lots of praise from opponents and organisers alike, with SMP goalkeeper, Demaris Ott being voted player of the tournament.
