12th September 2012

The St. Matthew’s Project summer scheme was, once again, well attended with an average of 72 participants per session over the five week period and 97 in attendance for the final day tournament, our second highest attendances in five LSWC tournaments.

The competition fell into three categories – 9-11s, 12-13s and 14-15s. However, we also included an older age group of 16-19s which was a great success, with an average of 30 participants per session, and proves that there is still demand for football activities at this age level in the Tulse Hill/south Brixton area. To include our older members in the final day tournament we organised a special event in memory of Nana Frempong, with the winners receiving special individual trophies.

We also received 12 new membership forms for the St. Matthew’s Project and recruited 5 new players for our league teams for the 2012-13 season. One boy, aged 8, was also referred to the Fulham F.C Development Centre in West Norwood.

On September 2nd we took 35 young people and 7 parents to the borough-wide finals at Fulham F.C’s training ground in Motspur Park, where we were runners-up in the U11s and U15s age groups and winners of the U13s.

On September 8th we will be taking 45 young people, staff, parents and guardians to the Fulham v West Bromwich Albion match at Craven Cottage, with free tickets from Fulham F.C. So, all in all, a summer to remember!
