SMP have run stand-alone, in-house F.A Level-1 & -2 coaching courses for local young people since 2006.

In partnership with the London F.A, we have produced over 200 qualified local coaches at Level-1, Level-2 and UEFA B Licence.

They love football, that sense of community. And St. Matthew’s has got that special part of the community…the coaches, the project manager’s role – it’s central to the success of the project.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the help and support you have given to us girls at St. Matthew’s and especially to me as an individual in my development. I honestly don’t know where I would be without SMP.

Former participant, volunteer and coach.

Three coaches have gained the UEFA B coaching licence through SMP, including Ashley Bosah, the current first team coach at Tooting & Mitcham United F.C..

Participants wishing to enrol on a football coaching course must be aged 16+ and commit to a minimum of 20 hours volunteering with the Project. Due to the new structure of the F.A Coach Education programme, we will no longer be able to host in-house courses.

The F.A Level-1 course is now the ‘Introduction to Coaching Football’ course and is delivered entirely online. To pass Introduction to Coaching Football, candidates will need to work through e-learning modules, unlocking new ones each week, as well as completing a short online assessment.

The F.A UEFA C course has replaced the FA Level 2, which has now been discontinued. The course will last for approximately 16-20 weeks, supporting the principles of spaced learning and giving candidates the opportunity to reflect and practice what they’ve learnt in real-time. Candidates must be actively coaching a group of players who regularly undertake training and play in organised or competitive fixtures. These can be made at SMFC training sessions and matches.
