2-TOUCH-RULZ CHAMPS!
A St. Matthew’s team made the trip to the Seymour Leisure Centre in Marylebone on July 16th and came away winners of the inaugural London 2-Touch-Rulz Championship in the U14s division. Not only did they come away with a trophy, they gained some admirers for their footballing style in the process. Please see event organiser Charles Browne’s comments below. Well done boys! And James Alexander for managing the team (and giving up his Saturday!)
‘The London 2-Touch-Rulz Football Championships took place on Saturday 16th July 2011 at Seymour Leisure Centre W1, which was chosen as a neutral venue for the teams that were representing the best 2-Touch players from North, South, East, and West London.
‘…(In the Under 14’s) Chalk Farm from North London put up the best challenge but the runaway winners in this age division was St Matthew’s from Brixton, South London who demolished all competition with a slick team of individuals that played 2-Touch the way it was meant to be played, winning 3 -0, 4 – 0, and 5 – 0 to qualify for the finals. Chalk farm then raised their game as the other qualifiers to the finals to make it a close game, ending up in a 2 – 2 draw, which meant the winner would have to be decided again by penalties. South London’s St Matthew’s came out winners with a 2 – 1 penalty shootout victory.’
